March in Southern Vermont
There will be mud
So Vermont | March 2026
The Great Vernal Slap
Welcome to March in Southern Vermont, or as we locals call it: "The Season of Four Hundred Outfits." We are currently in that magical window where you might need a snowblower at 8:00 AM, a light windbreaker by noon, and a pair of Muck boots for the 4:00 PM transition into the Great Muddy Unknown.
While the dirt roads are doing their best impression of quicksand, the cultural scene in southern Vermont is heating up.
From the high-flying acrobatics in Brattleboro to the intimate house concerts in Manchester and the high-stakes civil debates of Town Meeting Day, there is plenty of reason to scrape the mud off your boots and get out there. Grab a maple creemee (yes, it’s time) and let’s dive into the best of March.
